It’s only been a few hours since the Associated Press reported that an exploratory committee has been formed to make a bid for D.C. to host the 2024 Summer Olympics, and already a lot of people don’t think it’s a good idea.

I worry about a #dc2024 Olympics bid, but then I remember how it worked out for Yugoslavia’s statehood. pic.twitter.com/Dh7xmzR8t1

This is DC’s chance to turn RFK into a world-class Olympic stadium with too much parking that nobody will go to. #DC2024

But one person who does? Dan Snyder, obviously. As the Post reports, Snyder released a statement through the team saying that “we look forward to assisting the Washington Olympic Committee in presenting the nation’s capital and fabulous surrounding region to the Olympic sporting world.”
Because you can’t host the Olympics without building a proper Olympics stadium, the only logical place for the city to construct Olympics stadium is where the decrepit RFK Stadium sits. If they were to tear down RFK and build an Olympics stadium, what would become of it after the 2024 games? Well, it just so happens that the Snyder’s lease on FedEx Field expires in 2026, conveniently leaving two years for an Olympics Stadium in D.C. to undergo the necessary renovations to be outfitted for the Washington football team.
DC 2024 president Bob Sweeney also said that Olympic events “would stretch from Baltimore to Richmond, Va., but would be mostly concentrated around D.C.” As FedEx Field is in close proximity to D.C., it would probably be used for some Olympic events and, although Snyder doesn’t own FedEx Field, he’ll still be under lease and will probably make some money from it. DC 2024 = Everything coming up Snyder!
