If you’ve got weekend plans that involve traveling anywhere on the Red Line this weekend, you should probably just cancel them. Or, you know, just find a different mode of transportation.
A press release on WMATA’s website says that starting Friday at 10 p.m., Metro will be doing “reconstruction of the Metrorail system,” which will shut down Red Line service between the Dupont Circle and NoMa-Gallaudet stations. There will be shuttle buses running between those stops all weekend, but if you’ve ever taken them, I don’t need to tell you how much longer it will make your commute, wherever it is you’re heading.
Additionally, it looks like there will be delays on some other Metro lines.
Trains on the Orange and Green will operate at regular weekend intervals, except at one station: Greenbelt. On the Blue and Yellow lines, trains will run every 16 minutes, rather than every 12 minutes.
The work is all part of a $5.5 billion investment to repairing stations, which includes installing “new rail, ties, platforms, escalators, signals, lighting, communication systems, and more.”
Basically, just avoid the Metro this weekend. Maybe you can take Capital Bikeshare? I hear they’re having a pretty good week.
