Let’s face it, D.C. United fans: It’s been a really, really long year. Though the black and red gave us one glorious moment – a truly remarkable U.S. Open Cup title – the rest of the season has been filled with emotions that range from exasperation to heartbreak.
Still, you’ve come out week after week to watch them play, hoping to see a glimmer of the 2012 squad that came within 90 minutes of MLS Cup. And even in defeat, almost all of you have stuck by United’s side, something that can’t be said for many other professional sports franchises.
Throughout the year, we’ve covered United matches home and away alike. Francis Chung has shot photos at RFK, and I’ve handled away matches. While our lenses are typically trained on the field, we’ve often turned them towards the stands, in search of the indomitable spirit D.C. fans are so well known for.
So then, a selection of fan photos from this season. Here’s looking at you, United fans. Keep your chins up: there’s always next year.
