The future! Via Amazon.

The future! Via Amazon.

Last night in a 60 Minutes interview, Amazon CEO and new Washington Post overlord owner Jeff Bezos unveiled a top secret project for his flagship company: Package delivery by drones. Cue Terminator 2: Judgement Day reactions.

Bezos told Charlie Rose that the new project, called Skynet Amazon Prime Air, will fly your Amazon orders directly to your doorstep in 30 minutes via “octocopter” drones. Although Bezos already has a prototype that he unveiled to an incredulous Rose last night, he said that the project is still four to five years out as it “requires more safety testing and FAA approvals,” CBS News reports.

Apparently, this project was so top-secret that 60 Minutes was even kept in the dark up until the moment when Bezos unveiled the drones on camera. “I only knew that there was a surprise coming. I had no idea what it was,” 60 Minutes producer Draggan Mihailovich told CBS News. “They kept saying over and over again, ‘Whatever you think it is, it isn’t.’”

Anyway, you can see a full video of the segment below. In the meantime, you have four to five years to build a fallout shelter and stock it full of supplies before these drones become sentient and, well, you’ve seen the Terminator movies, so I don’t need to go on. Science!
