In fiscal year 2013, residents from the Free State (ha!) didn’t pay citations totaling $28,915,895. That’s out of $72,399,878 total, including the $17,173,887 owed by D.C. residents, $14,283,120 owed by Virginia residents and $12,026,975 owed by residents of other jurisdictions.
A total of 2,520,675 citations — 1,772,756 parking, 103,038 moving, 644,881 photo, 8,561 taxi and 1,625 other — were processed in FY2013, with a value of $219,020,782. But only $156,018,099 has actually been paid to the DMV.
This information comes from caseload statistics provided by the D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles ahead of a Council oversight hearing, which will take place Friday.
So far this fiscal year, Maryland is once again in the “Give Us Our Money” lead, with $8,603,695 out of $23,105,626 in unpaid citations.
