Photo by EvinDC.The D.C. Department of Transportation will begin improving the timing patterns of nearly 200 traffic signals in the city today.
This leg of the traffic signal optimization project will be focused on Wards 6, 7 and 8, according to a release, and is part of an “initiative to make the District’s traffic signals safer and friendlier for pedestrians, improve bus running times and overall traffic flow and reduce vehicular traffic emissions.” The initiative will enhance more than 1,650 traffic signals and is expected to be completed in 2016.
Here’s where adjustments will be made through March.
South and east of the Anacostia River, including roadways such as Pennsylvania Avenue, East Capitol Street, Minnesota Avenue, Alabama Avenue, Benning Road, Suitland Parkway, and others roads within this area. Areas around the Nationals Park (for example, south of I-395 and north of the Anacostia River and along the M Street and South Capitol Street corridors).
Motorists are asked to use caution in these areas.
