Police have arrested a D.C. man in connection to a homicide that occurred on Friday afternoon near an elementary school and the H Street corridor.

James Walter Yates III, 29, was charged with murder II while armed in the homicide of 29-year-old Andre Pierce Joyner of Fort Washington, Md. Joyner was found shot in the 600 block of Morris Place NE.

On Friday April 25, 2014, at approximately 3:35 pm, police officers from the First District responded to a call for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The shooting occurred near the Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School, which ends the school day at 3:15 p.m.
