>> The Jazz Samba Project at Strathmore continues this week and concludes on Sunday. Highlight’s include Friday’s 8 p.m. concert featuring Sergio Mendes and Eliane Elias, a series of lectures and panel discussions on Saturday and a full day of free music and dance performances on Sunday. >> Allyn Johnson is arguably D.C.’s finest jazz pianist. Fans of local music are doing themselves a disservice if they don’t go see him play one Tuesday this month as Bohemian Caverns‘ Artist-in-Residence. 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. sets. Tickets $10.

>> Saxophonist Bobby Muncy leads his Radiohead Jazz Project on Thursday at Twins Jazz. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $10 plus minimum and surcharge.

>> Saxophonist Brian Settles leads his group on Thursday at Dukem Jazz. His wife, Jessica Boykin-Settles, will be the featured guest vocalist. 9 p.m. No cover.

>> Pharoah Sanders first made his name during the free jazz movement of the late ’60s, most notably through his playing on John Coltrane’s later recordings. Since then, his approach to music has become more subdued, but he nonetheless retains the edge of a relentlessly exploratory musician. The 72-year-old Sanders will be performing at Blues Alley from Thursday through Sunday. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $40 plus minimum and surcharge.

>> Vocalist Iqua Colson and her husband, pianist Steve Colson, both come out of Chicago’s Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, a storied music collective that has made an important contribution to experimental music. The two will co-lead their quintet on Sunday, June 8 at Bohemian Caverns. 7 p.m. Tickets $20.

>> Integriti Reeves is a talented young vocalist who is sure to become an important part of the local jazz community. She will celebrate the release of her new album, Stairway to the Stars, on June 13 at Jazz Night in Southwest. 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets $5.

>> The MARS 4-tet is celebrating the release of The Blind Watchmaker with concerts at Twins Jazz on June 13 and 14. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $15 plus minimum and surcharge.

>> Taj Mahal is one of the most prominent blues men working today, and has been for decades. He will be at The Howard Theatre on June 22. 8 p.m. Tickets $45 to $70.

>> Once again, the The Hamilton will serve as the hub of the D.C. Jazz Festival which runs from June 23 to June 29. This year marks the festival’s 10th anniversary, and this year’s event features familiar faces like Paquito and Brass-A-Holics along new faces. The Jazz in the ‘Hoods series brings the music to all four quadrants of the District while the kids can enjoy the Jazz n’ Families Fun Days. Jazz at the Captiol Riverfront in Yards Park promises to be an amazing three days that features locals Akua Allrich and Frédéric Yonnet alongside Trombone Shorty and the Rebirth Brass Band. CapitalBop will also host a block party with pianist Marc Cary headlining on June 27, in addition to other events. Visit the festival website for full schedule and ticket information.

>> Musical categories mean nothing to Andy Milne’s Dapp Theory, one of the most eclectic groups in jazz. They will be playing at Bohemian Caverns on June 25 as part of the DC Jazz Festival. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. Tickets $25. The festival also brings saxophonists Jon Irabagon, David Sanchez and Gary Bartz to the historic club on June 23, 27-28 and 29, respectively. Visit the club web site for ticket information.

>> Ginger Baker made an indelible mark on music history in the 1960s because of his work with supergroups Cream and Blind Faith. He also collaborated with afrobeat icon Fela Kuti and has since gone through a series of ups and downs that were captured in the excellent 2012 documentary, Beware of Mr. Baker. Baker has assembled a new jazz group that is currently on tour, and the band will be at The Howard Theatre on June 27. 8 p.m. Tickets $42.50 to $80.
