If you can believe it (which shouldn’t be that hard, considering we’re approaching mid-July), it’s even hotter today than it was yesterday. With today’s high in the mid-90s (and the heat index in the 100s), D.C. is under a heat emergency, meaning cooling centers are open across the city. You can call 800-535-7252 to request transport. For pets in distress, call the Washington Humane Society at 202-576-6664 or 202-723-5730. You can also see a map of all the cooling centers here.
In addition to the city declaring a heat emergency, several MARC trains will be experiencing heat-related delays again. The Brunswick and Camden lines will be running at reduced speeds due to the heat, causing delays between 5 and 15 minutes. The Virginia Railway Express, which runs between Union Station and Fredericksburg, Va., will also be experiencing heat-related delays, of up to 11 minutes, this afternoon.
Because of the heat this morning, the Department of Public Works started early trash pick up. That’s everything you can directly blame the heat on today. Well, that and those unflattering sweat stains inked on your work clothes. Damn you, heat!
