Congressional staffers walked out of the Capitol this afternoon to protest the lack of indictments in the homicides of Michael Brown and Eric Garner and show support for their families.

“We’re proud to have this moment of solidarity with the families of Michael Brown and Eric Garner and the thousands of peaceful protesters around the country who are telling this country that black lives matter,” a staffer who helped plan the event told CNN.

The staffers, many of whom were black, held their hands up in the air, as demonstrators do when they chant “Hands up, don’t shoot!”

Brown was shot to death by a Ferguson, Mo. police officer while unarmed, while Garner died after being placed in an illegal chokehold by a New York City police officer. Neither officer was indicted.
