As Mayor Muriel Bowser transitions into her new position—and it’s been an eventful transition, what with a rocky response to the first snow storm of the season and Monday’s fatal Metro incident—she’s continuing to appoint leadership roles to her administration and, in some instances, creating entirely new positions to take on new roles.
Today, Bowser announced the formation of the Office of Talent and Appointments, which will be tasked with recruiting local residents for appointments and leadership staff positions within her administration.
“The Mayor’s Office of Talent and Appointments will serve as a continuation of existing efforts to recruit the District’s best and brightest talent to join our Administration, which includes the important work of boards and commissions,” Bowser said in a statement.
To lead this newly formed office, Bowser has tapped former iVote executive director and DNC deputy national political director Steve Walker, who most recently served in Bowser’s transition team’s Talent and Acquisitions Department. “I am confident that Steve and his team will use innovative approaches to recruit and build our leadership staff and boards and commissions,” Bowser says.
So what exactly will the MOTA do? In addition to recruiting people for appointments and leadership roles, it will be a “key entry point” for residents and those interested in applying to be in Bowser’s administration. In the office’s just-launched website, the department will “innovative and aggressive recruitment tactics, along with traditional approaches, to aggressively and proactively find and recommend the best talent for the Mayor’s appointments.”
