With the results of the incredibly close Ward 8 race in, D.C.’s two newest Councilmembers—LaRuby May and Brandon Todd will be sworn in tomorrow.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber of the Wilson Building. Following the death of Ward 8 Councilmember and Mayor-For-Life Marion Barry, a special election was held to fill his Council seat. A special election to fill Mayor Muriel Bowser’s Ward 4 Council seat was held concurrently.
If you didn’t happen to follow the special election, you might not be aware how close the Ward 8 race was—May won by just 79 votes. The story in Ward 4, however, Todd—a former constituent services director for Bowser when she was a Councilmember—beat his nearest opponent by more than 20 percentage points.
Tomorrow’s swearing in ceremony is free and open to the public, if you want to attend. If you can’t make it, it’ll be aired on Cable Channel 13.
