DCFerguson—the local activist group formed in the aftermath of the events that occurred in Ferguson, Mo.—are holding another rally tonight, to protest the recent “racially biased” harassment and violence from police across the nation.
The rally, which will take place at 7 p.m. tonight at Mt. Vernon Square, is a direct response to the recent incident in McKinney, Texas, where an officer was caught on video aggressively harassing a group of teenagers at a pool part, eventually pulling a gun out on them and pushing one girl to the ground.
“Recent footage of an officer brutalizing and pulling a gun out on teenagers at a pool party in McKinney,Texas, have once again shed light on why Black Lives Matter protesters have referred to widespread police misconduct as “terror,'” a release states.
DCFerguson says that the events in places like McKinner, Baltimore, and Ferguson aren’t limited to those areas. In D.C., “militarized jump-out tactics” are consistently being used by the Metropolitan Police Department to conduct unwarranted searches and interrogations, DC Ferguson says.
“We have seen the video of Ralphael Briscoe gunned down in the back,” activists say. “We remember the execution of DeOnte Rawlings, shot in the back of the head by an off-duty D.C. police officer, who was later cleared of any criminal wrongdoing.”
Additionally, tonight’s protest marks the anniversary of South Africa’s Soweto Uprising, wherein a student protesters were gunned down by police during apartheid.
