Update: Police have identified the little girl as Dalis Cox, 3, of Southeast. The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary information indicates that “the shooting may have been the result of another child having found and been playing with a firearm that discharged.”

A three-year-old girl was shot and killed last night in Southeast.
The shooting took place just after 8 p.m. last night in the 600 block of 46th Place SE, according to a police spokeswoman. When police arrived on the scene, the little girl was unresponsive. She was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to her injuries, police said.
MPD issued a lookout for a suspect but later said they weren’t looking for anyone. They didn’t provide more information about the shooter this morning, but FOX 5 reports that the girl was shot accidentally by her brother.
Family members said that the young boy didn’t know the gun was loaded.
