Washington College will remain closed for a third day, the school announced this afternoon.

The college, located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, has been shut down since Monday and was fully evacuated earlier today.

The school shuttered in response to a student, Jacob Marberger, who has been missing since early morning on November 16. Marberger’s parents called to say he returned home to the suburbs of Philadelphia and retrieved a firearm, and they have been unable to contact the 19-year-old since.

Washington College said that, “we have not had any direct threats against campus or any members of our community, but in the interest in caution we feel closing campus until the situation changes is the best course of action.”

According to the Baltimore Sun, Marberger

….was initially considered a missing person—but police Tuesday disclosed that he’s facing criminal charges in connection with an Oct. 9 incident in which he displayed an antique rifle, according to Jerry Roderick, chief of campus public safety….

Marberger is charged from the October incident with having a dangerous weapon on school property, possession of a firearm by a minor, handgun possession and possession of a prohibited weapon, said Chief Adrian Baker of the Chestertown Police Department…

Marberger was asked to leave campus and was required to undergo a psychiatric evaluation — which he passe —before returning to campus, one week ago, Roderick said.

As of 1 p.m., almost all students have left campus, and the school is working on finding lodging for the remaining 59.

Washington College describes Marberger as “a while male, 5’4”, 130 pounds, with brown curly hair” and urges anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Chestertown Police at 410-778-1800 or Public Safety at 410-778-7810.
