Love them or hate them, large-scale snowball fights have become a fixture of D.C. snowstorms over the past few years.
“No one is more surprised than us” they are still going, says Michael Lipin, one of the trio that has run Washington D.C. Snowball Fight Association for the past six years. The “organization” was founded during Snowmaggedon, when massive numbers of people showed up to the first “official” snowball fight in Dupont Circle. “I think if it snowed a lot, people would get sick of it. But big snow days are so rare … snow days generally are rare.”
The tradition continued this year with a Star Wars-themed battle (there were a fair number of Kylo Rens at the fight in Malcolm X Park, too) and was followed by a separately organized silent dance party in Dupont. Photographer Josh Marks and many of our excellent Flickr photographers captured the scene.
