Trayon White has made good on his promise to run again for the Ward 8 D.C. Council seat. He registered this morning as a Democrat for the primary in June, and kicked off his campaign with a rally at 1 p.m.

White lost to Councilmember LaRuby May in an incredibly close special election in 2015 by fewer than 100 votes. Both of them netted around a quarter of the vote in Ward 8 amidst a crowded field that began with 16 candidates and ended with 13.

This election won’t have as many candidates as 2015, according to White’s campaign manager Stuart Anderson. He told Washington City Paper that, “Every snake that sticks his head up, we’ll be talking to him.”
White worked in the office of D.C. Attorney General Karl Racine and was elected a School Board Representative at D.C. State Board of Education in 2011. May, a former campaign staffer for Mayor Muriel Bowser, has the support of the mayor’s Green Team fundraising apparatus.
