Update: Police tracked down the suspect who allegedly took Princess Jazzy using license plate information that WHS/WARL staffers were able to provide, and the kitten has been safely returned to the New York Avenue Adoption Center.
“We are thrilled that Princess Jazzy is back with us safely thanks to the swift actions of the Metropolitan Police Department and alert WHS/WARL staff,” said Lisa LaFontaine, WHS/WARL president, in a statement. “We are especially relieved because Princess Jazzy was under medical treatment prior to the theft and she will now continue to get the care she needs as she awaits adoption into a responsible and loving home.”
The incident is still under investigation.

“Princess Jazzy”Police are on the tail of Princess Jazzy’s catnapper.
The three-month-old tabby was taken from the New York Avenue NE adoption center, and officials say she is in need of medical care.
A suspect came in with two kids and asked to see the cats around 5:40 p.m on Saturday. While the staff wasn’t looking, the suspect walked out with the kitten without filling out the requisite paperwork or paying the $50 adoption fee.
“In addition to breaking the law, they have put this kitten’s health in jeopardy by circumventing our easy adoption process, and denying the kitten needed medical care,” said Scott Giacoppo, chief community welfare officer for WHS/WARL. “It is hard to believe that someone would commit such a crime.”
The newly joined Washington Humane Society-Washington Animal Rescue League is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who stole Princess Jazzy.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 202-727-9099, or anonymously text 50411.
