Update: With Mayor Muriel Bowser beside her, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier provided an update on today’s shooting.

Lanier said it appeared that the initial victim was struck by gunshots multiple times right outside of Big Ben’s, and appeared to be targeted by the suspect. That victim has been transported to a hospital and is now in stable condition, she said.

“The other three victims received gunshot wounds to the lower extremities and legs,” Lanier said, and are all now in good condition. She did not know yet whether the other victims were also targeted.

As far as the police officer, he was on a bike a block away when he heard the sound of shots. While biking to the scene, he was struck by a car, Lanier said. The car remained on the scene and the officer is in “good condition,” Lanier said.

MPD is preparing to release video to help identify the suspect.

Original: D.C. Police are responding to a shooting at North Capitol and New York Avenue. There are four shooting victims and an officer was struck by a vehicle, according to MPD spokesperson Sean Hickman.

Hickman says he has no further details about the victims’ status or identities, or the vehicle that struck the officer. Chief Cathy Lanier is at the scene, he says.

The officer has been transported to a nearby hospital with non life-threatening injuries, says D.C. Fire and EMS spokesperson Doug Buchanan. The gunshot victims have also been transported to a nearby hospital, all alive when they left the scene, he says, though he did not have details about the extent of their injuries.

All D.C. Fire and EMS have left the scene as police continue to investigate, says Buchanan.

Police say they’re looking for a black male suspect last seen in a black hoodie and blue jeans.

Westbound lanes on New York Avenue NE between North Capitol and Florida Ave NE are currently closed, according to CrimeAlertsDC.

Mayor Muriel Bowser is now at the scene as well, according to NBC4’s Darcy Spencer.
