Metro’s year-long maintenance program begins another surge next week with repairs that has the general manager asking Blue and Yellow line riders to avoid the system. But for now, Safetrack’s second surge is still bifurcating the Orange, Blue, and Silver lines. This weekend, riders on these lines can catch free shuttle buses between the Eastern Market and Minnesota Avenue/Benning Road stations. There’s no scheduled weekend track work on the Red, Yellow, and Green Lines, however, all lines will operate every 20 minutes after 10 p.m.

As for Monday, Independence Day, Metrorail will be open from 7 a.m. until midnight with “near rush-hour service levels” before and after the fireworks on the National Mall. The Smithsonian Station will be open all day, but the Mall entrance will become “entry-only” after 9:30 p.m. There’s no scheduled track work, and riders will pay off-peak fares for the entire day.
