Neal Place Tap + Garden is now open for business, joining the District’s growing beer garden list.

The most recent opening in this corner of the city’s Northeast quadrant comes from Gina Chersevani, co-founder of the D.C. craft bartenders guild and owner of Buffalo & Bergen at nearby Union Market and the roaming Suburbia bar. The other partner is bartender Jason Strich of Hanks Oyster Bar, who built out much of the garden’s features before he leaves D.C. this summer.

Arriving just in time to take advantage of the impending heat wave, the outdoor space has a large selection of beer priced between $5 and $7, along with cocktails for $9 and $3 Buffalo & Bergen sodas—which are available on tap and well-suited for cocktails. The local draft selection is solid, with choices from DC Brau, Atlas, Oliver Ales, and others. A heads up: Neal Place Tap + Garden accepts only credit cards, so you can save your dollar bills for the Red Derby.

A couple of food trucks will be on hand on any given day, and Fridays will feature $1 “buck a shuck” oysters. With plenty of shaded picnic tables, it’s easy to find a spot where you can sit and kick back with a beer and a nosh, even in the summer heat.

The former parking lot has been outfitted with a bocce area and a couple of corn hole set-ups — DJs and live music will also add to the fun summer-in-the-city vibe.

Neal Place Tap + Garden is open Thursdays and Fridays from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. at 1300 4th Street NE.
