Prepare for disruptions on half of the Metrorail system this weekend.

Last week, Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld announced adjustments to Metro’s Safetrack plan. Those modifications include pushing back the yearlong maintenance plan’s 8th surge, which will begin this Saturday. During the week, this surge entails segments of single tracking on the Blue Line until September 11, as well as the complete closure of Franconia-Springfield station this weekend.

Other weekend disruptions include Red Line trains running every 8 to 16 minutes as crews install new radio cables. And on Sunday from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., Yellow Line trains will run from Huntington to National Airport only to accommodate an emergency response drill between L’Enfant Plaza and Pentagon stations.

Orange, Silver, and Green Line trains will operate on a regular weekend schedule.

Red Line

Single tracking between Forest Glen and Glenmont to allow for radio cable installation.

Red Line trains will operate:

  • Between Shady Grove & Glenmont every 16 minutes
  • Between Shady Grove & Silver Spring every 8-10 minutes from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
