An 81-year-old man riding a recumbent bicycle was hit by a car and killed on the Capital Crescent Trail this morning, according to Montgomery County police.
Ned Gaylin, of Chevy Chase, was crossing in a marked crosswalk where the trail intersects with Little Falls Parkway in Bethesda, when he was struck by a Mercedes around 11:30 a.m.
Gaylin was transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver, identified as 78-year-old Nils Carl Axel Rudelius, was not injured.
Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department’s collision reconstruction unit are investigating the collision.
