A retired D.C. police officer fatally shot his mentally ill son last night at his home in Langdon, Melanie Alnwick of Fox5 reports.
Police have identified the victim as 33-year-old Carl Holloway, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The father was “forced” to pull the trigger after his son attacked him and another person before breaking down a door, sources told Alnwick.
Police responded to the incident near 2300 Woodridge Street NE around 9:50 p.m. Upon locating the victim, who was suffering from gunshot wounds, officials transported him an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers also took a suspect into custody for questioning, according to Lieutenant Franklin Porter. The shooting was found to be “domestic in nature and no continuous danger to the community,” he added. The case remains under investigation.
