This weekend’s agenda includes a 60’s dance party at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, two all-you-can-eat pig roasts, and more.

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 18

ANTI-HATE FUNDRAISER: DC Unite Against Hate hosts a fundraising and volunteer awareness event for Planned Parenthood, the International Rescue Committee, and the American Civil Liberties Union. Learn how you can help protect women, refugees, and other populations whose civil liberties are being threatened. (Hawthorne, 6-8 p.m. FREE entry, RSVP required; a portion of all ticket proceeds will be donated to each organization)

ANIME SCREENING: The Japan Information and Culture Center screens Hal, the story of a robotic surrogate created to comfort Kurumi after the death of her boyfriend in a tragic plane crash. (Embassy of Japan, 6:30-8 p.m. FREE, RSVP required)

THEATRE: Three new theatre productions begin this Friday. Take your pick between William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice (The Gilbert C. Eastman Studio Theatre at Gallaudet University, 8 p.m., $18-25), Arthur MIller’s A View from the Bridge (Kennedy Center, 8 p.m. $49-149), and Herman Melville’s Moby Dick (Arena Stage, 8 p.m. $90).

MENSWEAR: Celebrate analog photography, well-made menswear, crafted cocktails, and wood-fired pizza at Man. A Life Well Dressed. Timber Pizza Co. will be served on the house from 6-7, and after that, you can enjoy the pizza for $12-16. (Republic Restoratives Distillery and Craft Cocktail Bar, 6-9 p.m. FREE, RSVP required)

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 19

DANCE PARTY: Grab your best retro attire and groove to 1960s favorites spun on vinyl at the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Hot Beat Dance Party. It is a celebration of the exhibition Gene Davis: Hot Beat, which features fifteen of Davis’ classic stripe paintings. The party will feature classic cocktails and bites (i.e. meatloaf, grilled cheese, etc), a photo booth with backdrops of Davis’ paintings, a life-size version of Lite Brite, and more. (8-11 p.m. $60)

PIG ROASTS: You can your pick between two pig roasts on Saturday. The Pig Roast & Bourbon Bash in Arlington offers guests all the pig and side dishes they can eat, plus spiked hot apple ciders, hot toddy’s, and bourbon tastings (Barley Mac, 1-5 p.m. $30), while the Charity Pig Roast for Movember offers all-you-can-eat food prepared by Chef Ryan Gordon and all-you-can-drink beer from DC Brau (Little Miss Whiskey’s Golden Dollar, 3 p.m. $60)

SONG AND DANCE PERFORMANCE: Celebrate the diverse composers and musical traditions of Washington, D.C. at Fascinatin’ Rhythms , featuring Duke Ellington’s rarely performed “Sacred Concert.” Expect performances from a cappella groups, slam poetry artists, swing and tap dancers, plus a 17-piece all-star jazz band made up of Army, Air Force and Marine musicians. (Congressional Chorus, 7:30 p.m. $35)

ARTISAN MARKETPLACE: Shop for unique crafts, jewelry, and food gifts created by female entrepreneurs at Empowered Women International’s Fourth Annual Artisan Gifts & Food Marketplace. (Silver Spring Civic Center, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. $10 suggested donation)

UKULELE PLAYER: His repertoire ranges from Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” to Schubert’s “Ave Maria,” and he’s collaborated with artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Bette Midler, and Jack Johnson. On Sunday, Jake Shimabukuro, the first ukulele player to sign with Sony Music, performs at Strathmore. (7:30 p.m. $25-55)

CANDLE MAKING: Make apple sidecar cocktails and cinnamon orange clove candles at the latest installment of cocktails + craft. All workshop participants will take home two hand-poured candles. Spread the word to your friends to save $15 each. (Off the Beaten Track Warehouse, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., $80 for 1 ticket, $130 for 2 tickets)
