Metro riders who are staying local for the holiday weekend won’t encounter any interruptions on Metrorail due to maintenance work for much of the weekend, but there are some things to keep in mind.

On Thanksgiving Day, like other major holidays, Metro will operate on a Sunday schedule with off-peak fares. On Friday, rail and bus service will run on a regular weekday schedule with normal fare and parking rates in effect. And Saturday and Sunday service will run normal weekend routes.

However, Red Line trains will single track between Friendship Heights and Medical Center from 10:00 p.m. through closing on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, 1.2 million people are expected to flee the D.C. region this holiday weekend, and nearly 115,000 of them will journey by air, train, bus, or other forms of transit besides hitting the road in cars, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic. As such, Metro offers ways to get to transit destinations. While you may be able to hop on Metrorail to get to Union Station for Amtrak service and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport for flights, other transit ports like Dulles and BWI airports require bus trips, trains rides, or a combination of both.
