Metrorail riders should prepare for service adjustments on four lines this weekend due to maintenance work. The Red Line will operate every 12 to 15 minutes. And the Orange, Silver, and Blue Lines, which are being impacted by Safetrack’s last surge of the year, will operate every 20 minutes.
“The first two weeks of this surge will be the worst that anything most of our riders have experienced so far since we started SafeTrack,” Metro’s chief operating officer, Joseph Leader, said last week.
Red Line
Trains every 12-15 minutes | 10:00 p.m. Friday through closing Sunday
Red Line trains will operate between Shady Grove and Glenmont:
- On Saturday – every 12 minutes
- On Sunday – every 15 minutes
Friday and Saturday 10:00 p.m. through close, single tracking between Van Ness-UDC & Medical Center to allow for switch maintenance.
Saturday 7:00 a.m. through Sunday close, single tracking between NoMa-Gallaudet & Rhode Island Avenue to allow for station repairs.
Orange Line
Trains every 20 minutes | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday

Silver Line
Trains every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East & New Carrollton | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday

Silver Line trains will operate between Wiehle-Reston East and New Carrollton. Customers traveling to/from Largo Town Center should transfer at Stadium-Armory.
Blue Line
Trains every 20 minutes | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday
Saturday from 7:00 a.m. through Sunday close, single tracking between Addison Road & Largo Town Center to allow for communication cable installation.
Yellow Line
