This month, Metro officials are expected to announce the next SafeTrack surge that will begin in February. In the meantime, other scheduled maintenance work is back this weekend and includes things like rail and fastener renewals, joint eliminations, ceiling tile replacements, and cable installations.
This will cause service adjustments on all six lines.
Red Line trains will run every 13 to 26 minutes. Green Line trains will operate every 20 minutes. Yellow Line trains will also run every 20 minutes, but only between Huntington and U Street stations, and Silver Lines trains will run every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston stations only.
And from 7 a.m. on Saturday until closing on Sunday, buses will replace Orange and Blue Line trains between McPherson Square and Rosslyn. Meanwhile, trains on these two lines will run every 20 minutes.
Red Line
Trains every 13-26 minutes | 7:00 a.m. Saturday until closing Sunday
Single tracking between Van Ness & Medical Center to allow for switch maintenance, joint elimination, grout pad rehabilitation, leak mitigation and rail, fastener & stud renewal.
Red Line trains will operate:
- Between Shady Grove & Glenmont: every 26 minutes.
- Between Farragut North & Glenmont: every 13-15 minutes between 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Friday and Saturday 10:00 p.m. through close, single tracking between Forest Glen & Wheaton to allow for preventative maintenance.
Orange Line
Buses replace trains between Rosslyn & McPherson Square | 7:00 a.m. Saturday until closing Sunday.
Orange Line trains will operate in two segments:
- Between Vienna & Rosslyn every 20 minutes
- Between McPherson Square & New Carrollton every 20 minutes
Free shuttle buses replace train service between Rosslyn, Foggy Bottom, Farragut West and McPherson Square to allow for rail & fastener renewal, joint elimination and ceiling tile replacement. Please add 12-15 minutes of travel time for each station stop.
Silver Line
Trains every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East & Ballston only | 7:00 a.m. Saturday until closing Sunday
Silver Line trains will operate every 20 minutes between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only. Customers traveling to/from other stations should use Orange and/or Blue line trains to complete their trip. At Ballston, transfer between Silver and Orange line trains on the same platform.
Blue Line
Buses replace trains between Rosslyn & McPherson Square | 7:00 a.m. Saturday until closing Sunday.
Blue Line trains will operate in two segments:
- Operate between Franconia-Springfield & Rosslyn every 20 minutes
- Operate between McPherson Square & Largo Town Center every 20 minutes

Yellow Line
Trains every 20 minutes between Huntington & U Street only | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday
All trains will operate to/from U Street rather than Fort Totten. Customers traveling to/from stations north of U Street should use a Green Line train to complete their trip.
Green Line
Trains every 20 minutes | 7:00 a.m. Saturday through closing Sunday
Single tracking between Fort Totten & College Park to allow for communication cable installation.
