D.C. police shot a man this morning in Southeast after they say he refused to drop his gun. The man is currently in very serious condition.
D.C. Interim Police Chief Peter Newsham said at a press conference that the incident began when the suspect robbed a woman on the 1300 block of Good Hope Road around 8 a.m.
“Some very helpful citizens pursued the suspect,” then flagged down nearby police officers, Newsham said. After the man refused police’ orders to drop his gun, shots were fired, he continued.
Newsham said the suspect was in surgery at the time of the press conference and he is in “very serious condition.”
The case is still under investigation.
