Whole Foods will open its latest D.C. location on March 15, the grocery says.
The upscale market is on the ground floor of The Apollo, a mixed-use development at 600 H Street NE, along the corridor between 6th and 7th Streets. The store will take up about 40,000 square feet.
It will include an expanded Paper Horse venue from H Street stalwart and Maketto chef Erik Bruner-Yang, who previously worked with the Foggy Bottom Whole Foods on ramen offerings. The store is also collaborating with local brewery Atlas Brew Works, and will have an outdoor patio.
The company says that it has 150 people staffing the new location, which joins four other D.C. stores—one of which Vice President Mike Pence visited today to buy roses for his mother wife. That same Glover Park location was temporarily closed last week for “insects, rodents, and other pests.”
The long-rumored H St. Whole Foods was announced in November 2013. It replaces Murry’s: Your Neighborhood Food Store, a former H Street fixture that boasted much cheaper prices.
The store will begin its kickoff with a bread-breaking ceremony at 8:45 a.m. on March 15. Expect free samples.
