It looks like the worst of today’s dreary weather should be wrapping up in time for the evening commute. The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunder storm warning until 2 p.m. and a severe thunder storm watch until 5 p.m.

Washingtonians may experience damaging winds of 29 mph and see large hail, which are our primary threats, according to NWS, though an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.

While there is currently no report of a tornado, the Capital Weather Gang is advising area residents to seek shelter and stay there.

We’ll see highs near 66 degrees today but temperatures are expected to drop about 20 degrees tonight and strong wind gusts may continue this evening.

Though the brunt of the storm may subside by 5 p.m., drivers might have to contend with downed trees and large branches on the roads.

The weather watch covers D.C., plus the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, Tidal Potomac River, and neighboring counties in central Maryland and Northern Virginia.
