D.C. Police have arrested a 21-year-old suspect in connection to the murder of an elderly man inside of a Capitol Hill home.

Officials arrested Malcolm Amir, a Northeast resident, on Monday, according to a release from the Metropolitan Police Department.

The killing took place on Sunday, said D.C. Police, who arrived to find 79-year-old David Norwood suffering from multiple stab wounds in the 600 block of C Street NE. Fire officials came to the scene “and found no signs consistent with life,” according to an MPD release. Norwood was then taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Police charged Amir with second degree murder while armed. His arrest comes weeks after police charged a man who they say tied up and fatally stabbed a visiting artist in a Capitol Hill apartment.

There have been 35 homicides across the city this year, according to police data. That’s a 13 percent increase from the number of homicides that took place in the city by this time last year.
