If you’ve been hankering for some cluck, you’re in luck. The Chick-fil-A coming to Maryland Avenue NE now has an opening date.

The chicken spot, which will take the place of a Checkers by the H Street corridor, will begin slinging its sandwiches on Thursday, May 18, according to a release on the company’s website.

As is tradition for its new franchises, the chain is offering a giveaway of a free sandwich meal—a chicken sandwich, waffle fries, and a drink—weekly for a year to its first 100 customers.

The twist for this giveaway is that it will involve a “road trip bus tour” to different area spots, because participants will be “helping Chick-fil-A give back to the local community at stops along the way,” according to the company’s rules.

To get invited on the bus, guests should arrive at the Chick-fil-A’s parking lot the day before the grand opening, on May 17, no sooner than 5:30 a.m., with registration beginning at 6 a.m. The rules say that camping out will not help a person’s chances.

If more than 100 participants show up between 5:30 and 6 a.m. that Wednesday, a random drawing will dictate who gets the free meals. If fewer than 100 check in by 6 a.m., people will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis until 8:45 a.m. The bus departs at 9 a.m. for a day of getting bussed around D.C. through 5 p.m.

To be eligible for the giveaway, a person must live in one of the zip codes listed on the site.
