A Metrobus driver crashed into a pole after hearing gunshots on Tuesday night in Southeast, and had to be hospitalized for minor injuries.
Metro spokesperson Richard Jordan says there’s no reason to believe that the bus was targeted, but it appears that a stray round may have ricocheted and became lodged in bus’ front bumper.
The driver was operating the V2 bus near Minnesota Avenue and 16th Street SE around 9 p.m. when he heard bullets, which caused him to strike a pole, according to Jordan. There were eight passengers on the bus at the time and none of them reported injuries.
D.C. police and the Metro Transit Police Department are investigating the incident.
