Howard University Yardfest
As a part of the school’s annual homecoming celebration, Howard University hosts Yardfest, a free outdoor concert featuring different musicians that reflect the Howard diaspora. The concert has become one of D.C.’s greatest musical traditions. In years past, Howard’s student newspaper released the lineup of artists a day before the concert, but this year, guests will have to wait until showtime to see the performers. Previous Yardfests have featured big-name hip-hop artists like Rick Ross, Tory Lanez, Wale, and Lil Uzi Vert.
The Yard, Howard University, Friday, 12 p.m.

Explore the history of Hispanic culture through hands-on activities and conversations with museum experts.

Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum reopening
D.C.’s only Smithsonian institution east of the Anacostia River will reopen this weekend, after being closed for the better part of the year. Last March, Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum closed for several renovations, including an accessibility upgrade; a reimagining of its parking lot and outdoor space; and improvements to its lighting, heating, and cooling systems. This Sunday, celebrate the reopening of the museum with refreshments and live music. The new director, Melanie Adams, will be hosting a meet and greet and guests can tour the current exhibition, A Right To The City, which has been spread across D.C. libraries during the museum’s closure.
Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
