Here are eight ice skating rinks for you to glide around on this winter season.

It’s the season for bundling up, grabbing a friend, and hitting the ice at any of these ice skating rinks in and around D.C. Some of these options include great views, deals for students and seniors, and even free hot chocolate.

Sculpture Garden Rink
7th Street & Constitution Avenue

The National Gallery of Art’s rink is opening this weekend, with a sweet treat for their first batch of visitors. Those skating Nov. 15-17 will receive a coupon for complimentary hot chocolate from the nearby Pavilion Cafe. On days when the Sculpture Garden is closed, guests should enter from 9th Street. Tickets pay for two 45-minute skating sessions beginning on the hour. In between sessions, there are 15 minute breaks for the Zamboni to smooth the ice.

Dates: Nov. 15-March 15, weather permitting. Closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.

Hours: Monday-Thursday 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m.-11 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

Cost: $9 for adults. $8 for seniors (age 50 and up), children (age 12 and under), and students (with a school ID). Skate rental $4. Lockers are available for $.50 (a $5 deposit is required).

Washington Harbour Ice Rink
3050 K Street NW

Each fall, the fountain at Washington Harbour in Georgetown transforms into an ice rink. On Thursdays, college students get $2 off admission 5 p.m.-9 p.m. On Tuesdays, the rink offers two for one admission from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. The rink also holds classes for visitors age 3 and up, including adults.

Dates: Nov. 15-March 15.

Hours: Monday-Thursday noon-9 p.m.; Friday noon-10 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-10 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Special hours on holidays.

Cost: $10 for adults. $9 for children, seniors, and military. Skate rental is $6. Socks and gloves are $4 per pair. Large groups may book ticket packages online.

Silver Spring Ice Skating at Veterans Plaza
8523 Fenton Street, Silver Spring

This ice rink is right in downtown Silver Spring, at the center of a handful of restaurants and shops. Parking is free after 8 p.m. on weeknights and all day on weekends. From Dec. 23-Jan. 3, the rinks will stay open from 10 a.m. to midnight.

Dates: Open now until March.

Hours: Monday-Thursday noon-10 p.m; Friday noon-midnight; Saturday 10 a.m.-midnight; Sunday 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Cost: $9 for adults, $8 for children (age 12 and under), and $8 for seniors. Skate rental $5.

Pentagon Row Outdoor Ice Skating
1201 South Joyce Street, Arlington

With 6,840 square feet, Pentagon Row’s ice rink is the largest outdoor rink in Northern Virginia, and offers youth, adult, and private skating lessons. There’s also an outdoor stone fireplace for guests to lounge at in between laps.

Dates: Open now until mid March.

Hours: Monday-Thursday noon-10 p.m.; Friday noon-11 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-11 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Holidays and the night before holidays 10 a.m.-11 p.m.

Cost: $10 for adults. $9 for children (age 12 and under) and seniors (age 55 and up). Skate rental $5. Guests may also purchase individual and family passes.

Fort Dupont Ice Arena
3779 Ely Place SE.

Months after Fort Dupont Ice Arena settled a fight with the city over funds set aside for the arena’s renovation, the arena is open for public skating. This indoor ice rink—home to the oldest African-American youth hockey team in the U.S.—mainly teaches skating to kids, but drop-in hours for the public are available. A couple of hours on the ice may inspire your child to try out speedskating, figure skating, hockey, and synchronized skating.

Dates: Open now until mid-March.

Hours: Friday noon-2 p.m; Saturday, 1 p.m.-3 p.m.; Sunday 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m.

Cost: $5 for adults. $4 for children (age 12 and under) and seniors (age 65 and up). Skate rental $3.

Canal Park Ice Skating
2nd and M Streets SE.

Canal Park is just one of the rinks open on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Day. This ice rink offers beginners ice skating lessons for kids and adults. Those interested in learning about hockey could also sign up for their five week class.

Dates: November to February.

Hours: Monday-Thursday noon-10 p.m.; Friday noon-11 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-11 p.m; Sunday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m.

Cost: $9 for adults. $8 for children and seniors. Skate rental is $5.

Medstar Capitals Iceplex
627 North Glebe Road, Suite 800, Arlington

You can skate at the home of the Washington Capitals in Arlington. The rink warns of busy winter weekends so make sure to secure a pass early. Passes are sold 30 minutes before each session begins. No cameras, cell phones, headphones, backpacks, or purses are allowed on ice.

Dates: Open all year round.

Hours: Public skate hours are available throughout the week at varying times. Check their calendar to find the times.

Cost: $9 for adults, $8 for children, and $6 for seniors. Skate rental is $5.

The Wharf Ice Rink
Transit Pier, 970 Wharf Street SW

If the urge to skate hits while you’re out and not quite dressed for the elements, The Wharf is one of the rinks where you can gear up: Guests can purchase gloves and socks for $6. On Mondays, residents of the 20024 zip code (with a valid ID) can get $2 off their admission. This rink will stay open through the holidays with special hours, which are available on their website.

Dates: Nov. 26 until late February.

Hours: Monday and Tuesday noon-6 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday noon-10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday noon-11 p.m.; Sunday noon-9 p.m.

Cost: $12 for adults, $10 for active military and seniors, and $8 for children (12 and younger). Skate rental is $5 and locker rental is $3.
