If you’re traveling for the big game (or really, for any reason) this weekend, beware the Red Line in Maryland.

The Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton, and Glenmont stations will be closed as Metro works on integrating the stops onto the Purple Line, a forthcoming 16-mile light rail from the Maryland Department of Transportation. (When it’s done, the light rail will connect to the Red, Orange, and Green lines, as well as MARC, Amtrak, and Metro bus routes.) Shuttle buses will run between Fort Totten and Glenmont on two separate routes: one between Fort Totten, Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton, and Glenmont, and a separate shuttle will run between Takoma and Silver Spring.

Trains on the Green and Yellow lines will be running every 16 minutes and single tracking between the Mount Vernon Square and U Street stops for track circuit testing and switch replacement. The Orange, Blue, and Silver lines will be operating normally.

Red Line

  • Red Line trains operate every 6-8 minutes between Shady Grove and Takoma.
  • Due to MTA Purple Line integration, free shuttle buses replace Red Line trains between Fort Totten and Glenmont.
    • Customers traveling to stations beyond Silver Spring must exit at Fort Totten.
    • Free shuttle buses will operate on two routes;
      • Between Fort Totten, Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont. This shuttle will NOT stop at Takoma.
      • Between Takoma and Silver Spring only.
  • Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont stations will be closed.

Orange Line

  • Regular service, trains every 12-15 minutes.

Silver Line

  • Regular service, trains every 12-15 minutes.

Blue Line

  • Regular service, trains every 12-15 minutes.

Yellow Line

  • Trains every 16 minutes.
  • Due to switch replacement and track circuit testing, Yellow Line trains will single track between Mt Vernon Sq and U Street.

Green Line

  • Trains every 16 minutes.
  • Due to switch replacement and track circuit testing, Green Line trains will single track between Mt Vernon Sq and U Street.
