A show coming to the District this week will be different from the Glastonbury Festival or an amphitheater performance, because there won’t be smoke machines billowing and flags waving in the crowd. Think more along the lines of Tiny Desk—stripped back and intimate. Also, think lox n’ bagels, because pop rock trio Haim is coming to a D.C. deli.
With little notice, the group of sisters (Este, Danielle, and Alana Haim) announced what they’re calling a Deli Tour, kicking off in New York on Tuesday.
“Our first show ever was at canters deli in 2000 so we decided we want to play shows at different delis across America to celebrate our new record,” Haim wrote on Instagram. “We’ve never done anything like this before so let’s all get together and eat some matzo ball soup and we’ll play you some songs live. Maybe some new ones??”
Haim’s D.C. show will take place on Wednesday, March 11. The location is currently unspecified, though a quick list of options isn’t hard to imagine: Call Your Mother, Wagshal’s, Stachowski’s, Loeb’s NY Deli, or any other scrappy, local lunch spot.
Want to slurp soup and order a sandwich to go while enjoying an intimate concert? The band posted a signup form online where fans can plug in information for a chance to learn the location and attend the show with a guest. A publicist for Haim didn’t immediately respond to a DCist request for comment.
The folk-meets-funk group is releasing its third studio album, Women In Music Part III, on April 24. Alana Haim said in a statement that the name was chosen “because we are literally women in music and we always get written about that way, so it seemed cool to make it our own and control the narrative. It made me think about some of our experiences more.” The album’s cover art continues the deli theme.
After the New York and D.C. performances, Haim will continue its deli tour in Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles.
