D.C. police have arrested a 21-year-old Northern Virginia resident in connection with a homicide that took place Monday near 14th Street and Good Hope Road SE.
Terrance Oxner of Manassas, Virginia, was charged Monday with first degree murder while armed. His arrest follows a shooting that left one man dead and four others injured at a D.C. convenience store. The decedent has been identified as 22-year-old Edward Wade of Southeast Washington.
Wade was a college student whose mother was waiting outside for him in the car while her son grabbed coffee and something to eat at the store, according to D.C. Moms Demand Action.
The shooting happened before 9 a.m. Police found two victims at the scene, and three others got to the hospital on their own. Oxner was among the individuals who sought treatment at a local hospital, police say. The case remains under investigation.
It was the 12th homicide of the year. D.C. had nine killings by this time last year.
In 2020, D.C. had 198 homicides, a 15-year-high. A majority of the homicides occurred east of the Anacostia River. More than half of the victims were in their 20s and 30s. In more than 80% of cases, they were shot.
Police are offering a reward up to $25,000 to individuals who provide information leading to the conviction of people involved in the homicide. Individuals can send anonymous tips by texting 50411.
