Mechanical equipment exploded in the basement of BridgePoint Hospital in Capitol Hill Thursday, and the force of the explosion went up the chimney shaft and inflicted damage on several floors of the building.
According to D.C. Fire and EMS, one person has been transported from the scene with non-life-threatening injuries. Another person was injured, but did not require hospitalization. At this time, they say there are no issues with the building’s structural stability.

The hospital, which has 177 beds in total, provides long-term acute care and sub-acute care, including rehabilitation and skilled nursing. Neighbors have reported they heard a large noise emanating from the facility early Thursday afternoon.
