It’s not the beer-shot combo you’re used to, but D.C. officials are now offering a special deal for residents who get vaccinated.

Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Tuesday that anyone over the age of 21 who gets the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the Kennedy Center on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. will receive a free beer courtesy of Solace Brewing Co. No appointments are necessary.

The District is the latest among jurisdictions, states, and even companies dangling food and alcohol over the heads of people who haven’t been vaccinated. Earlier this week, New Jersey announced anyone who gets their shot in May and takes their vaccination card to a participating brewery gets a free beer on the house. In Maryland, Gov. Larry Hogan announced state employees who get the vaccine are eligible for a $100 payment.

Big brands like Sam Adams and Budwieser are also getting in on the action with #ShotForSam and “A Beer on Bud” that let newly vaccinated folks claim a free beer. For those who stay sober, Krispy Kreme is offering free donuts for vaccinated customers.

As of May 4, the District has administered 532,191 doses. More than 36% of residents are partially vaccinated, and 22% fully vaccinated. D.C. recently expanded vaccine eligibility to people 16 and over, but inoculation rates continue to lag among Black and minority communities. The city began delivering vaccines to homebound residents last month and just opened approximately 10 mass vaccination sites last week.

“Take the shot, D.C.,” the city’s health department said last month.
