Wednesday marks the 100th lighting of the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse and that means traffic downtown is expected to be heavier than usual.
Several streets will be closed near the White House and parts of the National Mall from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The event is hosted by LL Cool J and will include holiday-themed performances by Gloria Estefan, Shania Twain, Andy Grammer, Joss Stone, Yolanda Adama, Ariana DeBose, and the United States Marine Band.
Tickets have already been distributed and walk-up tickets are not available. But the ceremony will be broadcast on CBS on Sunday, Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. and on CBS.com starting Dec. 12.
You can also avoid the traffic mess and visit the tree anytime between Dec. 2 to Jan. 1 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. The lights turn on around sunset on both the big tree and 58 smaller ones decorated by each state and territory.
Parking restrictions begin at 9:30 a.m. on 17th Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Constitution Avenue, Constitution Avenue between 18th Street and 14th Street, and 15th Street between F Street and Constitution Avenue.
These streets will close from about 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
