Trey Bates, 7, enjoys his first “real” snowball fight (according to his big brother) by pelting others that showed up. He and his family moved a year ago to D.C. from Florida. About two dozen people answered the call for the “Battle of Snowpenheimer” arranged by the Washington DC Snowball Fight Association for an early morning throw fest.

A couple of inches of snow and people were ready to pick a snowball fight. About two dozen people showed up for the “Battle of Snowpenheimer” after a call put out by the Washington DC Snowball Fight Association (yes that’s a real thing) for an early morning throw fest. Co-founder Michael Lipin said that the DCSFA has been calling people to pelt each other with snowballs since Feb 6, 2010.

Maria Bates and her family moved from Florida to D.C. a year ago and said that her son, Trey, was very disappointed to have a dry winter last year, but “when he found out this morning that school was canceled and that there was a great snowball fight, we had to show up.”

See some scenes from the fight below, where a couple dozen people pelted each other with snow starting at 8:30 a.m.
