Where Are the Local Colleges in the NBA?

Last week the Wizards signed former GW forward Mike Hall to a 10-day contract, making him the second Colonial from last year’s team to make it to the NBA. The first was Pops Mensah-Bonsu, who scored the first points by a GW player in the NBA since Yinka “the Stinka” Dare in 1998. Neither look to play much this season, but it got us thinking – where are all the other players from local colleges?…

College Hoops Rundown: Hoyas, Terps Notch Big Wins

A weekend full of college basketball saw all four major D.C. area programs hosting games against teams ahead of them in the respective conference standings. Two emerged with convincing wins, while two others suffered disappointing losses. On Saturday, Georgetown leapfrogged No. 11 Marquette into second place in the Big East with a 76-58 victory in front of an announced 17,867 at the Phone Booth. Trouble for the Terps?

Looks like things aren’t going so well for the Maryland men’s basketball team lately. Senior Marc Burch, a transfer from Evansville, found the back of the net in the 31st minute to give the Terps the lead and freshman goalkeeper Chris Seitz all but sealed the deal in…

Maryland Up to the Challenge

(DCist would like to welcome our new college basketball correspondent Hayden Alfano) Maryland’s men’s basketball team used a full-court press defense to force 22 Minnesota turnovers, pulling away in the second half for an 83-66 victory over the Golden Gophers last night as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Travis Garrison paced the Terrapins with 18 points, becoming the fourth player to lead the team in scoring in the first six games. Regardless of the…

Weekend Hoops Roundup: Maryland v. Duke Edition

>> The Duke Blue Devils men’s basketball team has just five losses in the last 11 months, and after falling to Maryland 99-92 in OT on Saturday night, Maryland can lay claim to three of them. Maryland’s victory marks the first time in a decade that the Terps have taken the season series from the Blue Devils. Emotions were high in College Park throughout the game. JJ Redick got into it with Chris McCray and…
