Health officials in Prince George’s County are still baffled by the mass illness that sickened about 100 high school students with the National Youth Leadership Council staying at the University of Maryland in College Park. Health officials know that it isn’t a virus and it isn’t the flu. And they’ve cleared the university of any fault.

WTOP says the students “had eaten [in] a campus dining hall, received box lunches, and also attended an event in Baltimore.

DCist is curious whether all three are considered heightened risk factors in contracting gastro-intestinal ailments. We also find it ironic that the students were attending a NYLC health care conference. Maybe some high school hellraiser put syrup of ipecac in the frozen yogurt machine mix.

UPDATE: The Post reports that a norovirus is the culprit, which is related to the Norwalk virus, which will pop up on cruise ships from time to time.
