From DCist contributor Rebecca Walters:
D.C. is mostly a pet-friendly city, specifically a dog-friendly city. In 2003, Purina ranked Washington, D.C., sixth in the Top 50 Pet Healthiest Cities. The city and its suburbs eek out space for dog parks in the midst of burgeoning development to attract pet-lovers looking for a home that offers space for Fido to run. Area residents and their canine friends can be found in the parks, the circles, the streets, and the sidewalks of the metropolitan area.
But did you know that you can also take your pet socializing? Three D.C.-area establishments have regular events catering to patrons and their pooches. Alexandria is host to two weekly happy hour events with the Old Town Holiday Inn Select offering Doggie Happy Hour every Tuesday and Thursday and St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub setting the scene for Wednesday’s Yappy Hour. In the District, check out Adams Mill Bar and Grill for a Thursday pet-friendly rendezvous.
Before you grab the leash and head for the door with you four-legged pal, there’s more! This Saturday, Animal Attractions.com is sponsoring Party Like a Dog for “single people who have or love pets.” Dogs and their companions are invited to this afternoon event at Buffalo Billiards. Given the popularity of area dog parks, DCist has no doubt this will be a well-attended event.
