If youre looking for something to do on this rainy weekend in D.C., you might think about putting on your finest hemp clothing and attending the DC Green Festival being held at the Washington convention center. A joint project of Global Exchange and Co-Op America, the Green Festivals are
a two-day party with a serious purpose: to accelerate the emergence of a new economic paradigm that is life-affirming, inclusive and nurturing. Together we are cultivating a culture of sustainability and social equity that honors our interdependence with all life. Green Festival unites green enterprises, social and environmental groups, visionary thinkers and thousands of community members in a lively exchange of ideas, commerce and movement building fun.
Notable presenters at the Green Festival include Barbara Ehrenreich (famous for her Nickel and Dimed), Naomi Klein (No Logo), and Jim Hightower. The festival will also feature films, a Fair Trade coffee and chocolate tasting, and numerous exhibitors ranging from organic food providers to progressive media outlets (The Nation) to top 40 radio stations (FM 104).
Riding your bike to the event gets you a $5 ticket discount; unfortunately, Metro and bus riders will have to pay full price. DCist wonders if the festival organizers know that D.C. busses run on green technology.
