We came across this image from some sort of University of Oregon research page on urban heat islands. While a political pundit may try to say that Congress or the White House is full of hot air, it may in fact be the Pentagon. Examining this undated map, here are some locations in near the center of the city that produce a lot of heat.

– the Pentagon
– Department of Agriculture
– Department of Energy
– Ford House Office Building
– Waterside Mall
– H Street corridor between old Washington Convention Center and MCI Center
– Federal Triangle, particularly the Ronald Reagan building
– a number of office buildings near 19th and M sts NW
– SE corner of the State Department (maybe it’s where overworked USAID workers have their cubicles)
– an area between the Air and Space Museum and Department of Education
– something near the Ritz Carlton in the West End, perhaps the Sports Club LA, Lulu’s Club Mardi Gras or the European Union mission
– and something near the Union Labor Life building at New Jersey and Massachusetts avs, maybe the ventilation tower from the Center Leg/I-395 tunnel
