As if things weren’t bad enough for the Redskins this season, rookie standout Sean Taylor was pulled over and charged with DUI early Wednesday morning. Virginia State Police Lt. Harry Newlin pulled Taylor over at 2:45 a.m., on the Beltway. Taylor was taken into custody after he failed a sobriety test at the scene and then refused a breathlizer. He was later released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond and is due in a Fairfax County courtroom on Dec. 1.

This is just another in a long line of setbacks for Taylor who was fined $25,000 earlier this summer for leaving the NFL’s mandatory rookie symposium. Later in training camp, he was unable to practice after linebacker LaVarr Arrington temporarily blinded him with shaving gel in a prank gone wrong.

But Taylor is not the only area athlete that has been caught misbehaving. Washington Wizards Brendan Haywood and Larry Hughes have been suspended by the NBA for their roles in a fight on Monday during a preseason game against the Chicago Bulls. Haywood will miss three games while Hughes must sit out one. Hughes initiated the incident against the Bulls when he pushed Kirk Hinirch into Luol Deng as Deng drove to the basket. Haywood followed up by pushing Hinrich and then punching Antonio Davis when he stepped into the fray.

The pair will not be the only Wizards missing from the first few games of the NBA season, which starts next week. In August, point guard Larry Hughes was suspended for one game for failing to maintain proper registration of a handgun and reserve Anthony Peeler still owes the NBA one game from his confrontation with Kevin Garnett in last year’s playoffs while he was a member of the Sacramento Kings. And if that wasn’t bad enough, Kwame Brown, Steve Blake and Etan Thomas are all expected to miss time with various injuries.
