Last night, DCist met up with a few other bloggers at Cricklewood Massive’s iPod Jukebox night at Cafe Saint Ex’s Gate 54, which always hosts a great gathering of folks. While we heard that the bartender was giving some customers “attitude,” we all enjoyed the music selections for the evening, and give special thanks to the good soul who featured the Gotan Project in their lineup.

But the best part of the night wasn’t the music, but the movie selection the crew at Saint Ex chose to feature in the background. You may have seen 1979’s “The Warriors” on during the late night hours and may have been massively perplexed by the pseudo post-apocalyptic gangland movie set largely in the New York subway, but is it ever a cult favorite. (It’s going to be remade, too, according to Gothamist.) We found it interesting that next to the TV we were looking at was an Evening Standard poster about a rise in Tube violence. With that, the movie, oddly enough, set the stage for an interesting ride home on the Red Line.

(If you’ve never seen “The Warriors” what follows may not make any sense … if you want a primer on the movie — based on a novel inspired by Xenophon’s “Anabasis” — check out “The Warriors” fan club site from AllWatchers.com.)
